Who is a head hunter?
A person who has the discerning eye for the most talented people for a job is called as a headhunter. Under the head hunter is a host of recruitment agencies. Employers in the international arena seek for headhunter who can assist them in finding the right employees in the industry.

A headhunter has alliances with various countries that open gates for international recruitments from global companies. A headhunter will establish strategic relationships with various player in the international arena to cater to the requirements of countries like Canada, Quebec, India, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the United Kingdom.

It is the responsibility of a headhunter to address the needs of global companies and Indian job seekers for managing their job search process efficiently and effectively. Their responsibilities includes posting and upgrading the resume, save their job searches, and create job search "informants" that notify them about jobs that match their skills.

Duties of a Headhunter
A headhunter assists the international recruiters and Indian job seekers to make the whole job search process hassle free, precise, quick and simple. The duties of a headhunters include the following:-

A headhunter must garner the following information from the client :

  • Company profile
  • Job Location
  • Job position / title and reporting structure
  • Job description in detail
  • Desired minimum years of previous work experience of the candidate
  • Desired age profile of the candidate
  • Time frame for joining.
  • Indicative salary range + other perks like medical, accommodation, leave etc.
  • Any other information, which can assist them in the search.
The Procedure
Another important duty of the headhunter is to understand and analyse the requirements and types of projects for which international recruiter requires the Indian professional. Well equipped with expertise and knowledge, a headhunter also needs to find the right kind of profiles that would cater to the requirements.

A headhunter undertakes various activities for finding the right profile, screening the applications and short- listing the applicants. The activities include:-

  1. Searching own existing database for matching profiles.
  2. Headhunting candidates through various personal contacts in the industry.
  3. Headhunting from other companies in the similar industry.
  4. Hosting vacancies on subscribed job portals.
Shortlisting and final selection

Prior to sending the resume to the clients, a Headhunter undertake the following activities and conducts the following checks :-
  1. Checking Communication skills
  2. Experience related to the job vacancy
  3. Availability / interest for the said job vacancy and job location
  4. Current salary details & expected salary
  5. Checking whether the candidate can relocate within the stipulated period.

After the above matches as per the client's requirements, only the short-listed CVs are forwarded to the client, for their perusal.

The client provides the headhunter with the final shortlist for interviews to be conducted. The headhunter acts as a bridge between the client and the candidate by coordinating the interview dates, venue, time with the the two. Interviews can be undertaken as per the wish of the client i.e. telephone or in person. Once the whole procedure of interview finishes, the headhunter undertakes reference checks from the previous employer to ensure that the candidate has the experience and required certificates.

Allied services
Co-ordination for issuance of Visas/Work permits from local consulates, undergoing statutory medical tests, notarization & attestation of testimonials and completion of air-ticketing formalities are the responsibilities of a headhunter.
