Indian Professionals working abroad make a concerted effort to acquire the knowledge, skills, and traits gained through cross-cultural interaction because they are more geographically and linguistically insulated than most other countries.

For most Indian IT professionals, the U.S. has always been the destination of choice. Professionals who left the country, never came back citing lack of opportunities in the software services sector.
Although accurate statistics of the swelling migration of teachers are unavailable, it is estimated that in the past two years, hundreds of Indian teachers have been recruited by American and British schools and more are planning to wing their way abroad.
Above all, Indians have come to enjoy a dominant position in the information technology (IT) industry. In an issue devoted to in-depth coverage of Indian immigrants in this industry, the Fortune Magazine (May 15, 2000) recently noted that without the Indian entrepreneurs, Silicon Valley would not be what it is today. It placed the wealth generated by them at $250 billion, more than half of India's current GDP.
The rise of Indian multinationals, capable of wooing Indian professionals abroad back to their country, will only add to this process. The hiring of 20 out of the 85 members of its drug-discovery team from U.S. and European companies by Ranbaxy Laboratories two years ago was just the beginning of that process.
In their occupations, Indian-Americans have attained a high degree of professionalism. They are most prevalent in the fields of science and technology. Indian-Americans are also very involved in academia. Over five thousand Indian-American faculty members are teaching at various universities around the nation.10 Indian-Americans have also become successful entrepreneurs, and many of the hotels and motels in the United States are owned by Indian Americans.
Problem-solving ability, decision making skills, cognitive skills and social skills are the most prized generic skills that are found in Indian professionals. Passing our from premier institutes like IIMs and IITs, Indians reach the top management level in global organizations and continue to work abroad drawing handsome salaries.
Indians: A saga of success in America
The money-power of the Indi-community speaks for itself. According to the US Census Bureau the Indian median family annual income stands at $60,000 as against the national average of $38,885 and the estimated annual buying power of Indians working abroad stands at $20 billion.
More than 300,000 Indians worked in technology firms in California's Silicon Valley, with their average income estimated at $125,000 a year. About one-third of the engineers in Silicon Valley are of Indian descent, while over 7 percent of valley's high-tech firms are led by Indian CEOs.
